CIREBA stands for the Cayman Islands Real Estate Board Association.
MLS stands for Multi Listing Services, and it is a central data source where all members of CIREBA have up to date and current access to data, real time. The fundamental principle of the MLS is that all CIREBA brokerages have agreed to work together and share their property listings to procure a sales transaction. This means you can view any property by only using one Real Estate agent that you feel comfortable. If you want to see ten different homes, you do not need to call ten different agents to view them. The CIREBA agent will do all the legwork and set up showings, so you do not have to worry about that. It makes shopping for a house a lot easier and less stressful.
Buying and selling properties in the Cayman Islands in the 1970s and 1980s was a lot different than it is today, as there were no rules and guidelines to follow.
1987 was a great year when a few Realtors got together and formed a small group called CIREBA. CIREBA is a non-profit association based on the North American style of relationship between realtors and clients.
Today, CIREBA is proud to have 34 Brokerages and 167 Real Estate agents, making up approximately 95% of all Realtors in the Cayman Islands. We have over 1500 listings currently on CIREBA MLS.
To be a Realtor and a member of CIREBA, agents and brokers must complete a professional training course that includes business ethics, due diligence requirements and fundamental contract law. A high degree of competence is demanded of all CIREBA members, and they must adhere to a strict code of ethics established by the Association.
